Many people chase dreams of becoming famous musicians, but few make it to the top. Quinnipiac student Patrick Downey is working hard to make sure he is one of those lucky few. He has released his first album, “One More Night”, on iTunes.
Downey had to fill out some forms in order to do this, but did not think the process was too difficult.
“For me it was actually kind of putting my life together and what I wanted to do with my music potion.” Downey said. “That was difficult, but actually getting it out there was just a couple weeks of waiting.”
Now that he has material on iTunes, Downey has enlisted friends to help promote his music. By utilizing social media and handing out free download cards, he and his friends have gotten more exposure. Sophomore Hannah Schindler is the Design Editor for The Quinnipiac Chronicle and created his album cover.
Downey plays in a variety of styles, from electronica to “go back five, six years ago kind of pop.” The inspiration for his music comes from his life and the love that he has experienced. One of the songs on the album, “Strong=Brave,” is dedicated to his sister. She has an undiagnosable disease and is usually bedridden.
Downey said, “I just realized that my life is so good and so many people have so little to worry about. Yet we all complain about things that are so small, and she deals with the fact that she doesn’t see her friends ever.”
This budding singer started off in Texas, where he lived for seven years. From there he moved to New Jersey and now lives in northern Connecticut. He is a sophomore at Quinnipiac University, studying bio-medical marketing.
You can catch Downey playing at The Space in Hamden, Conn. on March 15. Tickets are 13 dollars at the door. Downey will be playing an acoustic set along with the other performing bands. For more information about the QU Super Star, check out his Facebook page, “Patrick Downey – Official Music.”
