Q30 Sports basketball beat reporter, Morey Hershgordon, reports that Mark Fogel is in as the new Director of Basketball Operations at Quinnipiac University. Fogel will replace Mike Papale, who along with former assistant coach, Scott Burrell, left Quinnipiac in favor of Southern Connecticut State University. Fogel comes to Quinnipiac after recently spending time as an assistant coach at Odessa College, a two-year junior college in Texas. To date, Odessa College athletics has won 46 National Junior College Athletics Association titles, the most in NJCAA history, the men’s basketball team finished last season with a 20-9 mark.
Prior to his time at Odessa, Fogel was the Coordinator of Video and Player Development at Tulane University. In 2011, as an undergraduate at the University of Tennessee, Fogel was a student assistant working under then head coach Bruce Pearl. The second fastest coach to reach 300 wins in NCAA history, Pearl led the Volunteers to their first No. 1 ranking in school history.
Fogel joins Tom Moore’s staff after a mediocre 15-15 season, including a first round exit courtesy of Marist in the MAAC Tournament.
