The Student Government Association worked to turn the Bobcat Den into the “Boomer Bean.” This event was put on as a part of SGA’s initiative to put a permanent coffee shop on any of three campuses at Quinnipiac University.
Mostafa Elhaggar, the next student-body president has been working hard along with other SGA members to bring something new to the Quinnipiac campus.
“It’s kind of been a recurring concern because a lot of students want to go out to New Haven, but there is definitely a population on this campus that want to do an alternative,” said Elhaggar.
“We have been working hard to find this alternative. People love coffee shops and it’s totally something that is at colleges, so why not bring it to this campus.”
This coffee shop event featured many different things on all three floors of the Bobcat Den.
A band played on the first floor and the mic was opened up to students and the general public later on in the evening. On the second floor, some of the tables were replaced by sofas, armchairs, and a coffee table. Students crowded on the third floor to get free pastries and Insomnia cookies. There was also a candy bar. All three floors also featured dimmer lighting to set a calm mood.
Mostafa was really happy on the student turnout and he believes that the Student Government Association is heading in the right direction with this initative.
“I am shocked on how pack the Bobcat Den is tonight. It just goes to show that many students want a coffee shop”.
