In search of diversity: Part two

In+search+of+diversity%3A+Part+two

By Elijah Westbrook

In the first installment of In Search of Diversity, News Team 30 questioned students to see if they found Quinnipiac University to be diverse. While students thought it wasn’t, what do some groups at the school think?

“I don’t think the school isn’t as diverse as it should be, but we are heading in the right direction,” President of Black Student Union Ashaa Russell said.

A good amount of the students News Team 30 spoke to in this part of the series agree the direction of diversity is positive for the future of Quinnipiac University. But at this moment, the school is not racially diverse.

“Programs like the Imagine Program are great ways to spread awareness about diversity,” Class of 2014 Student Representative Theo Siggelakis said. “But overall we are a homogenous school racially.”

Quinnipiac students want the school to be diverse overall and feel that it will better enhance the school and their future’s when they enter the global workforce.

QU also has to be willing to provide the resources to students coming in from other ethnic backgrounds. I was there from 2009-2012 and the university did a wonderful job of drastically increasing the number of visual racial diversity but the retention and satisfaction of those students lacked greatly-mainly do to lack of support and resources for these students to be successful.
