The Quinnipiac Bobcats women’s basketball team is 40 minutes away from its second trip to the NCAA Tournament in three years. One team stands between the Bobcats and an automatic bid to the dance- the Marist Red Foxes.
Winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament is a tall task for both teams. Marist has won nine straight MAAC tournaments, and this year’s championship game makes it 12 straight appearances to the finals. On the other side, Quinnipiac is 30-3 this season, and 22-0 against conference opponents. The Bobcats swept the Red Foxes in the regular season, beating them 73-55 in Hamden, CT and 80-62 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
One player who has made a huge impact for Quinnipiac in just her first year in Hamden is graduate student Val Driscoll. Driscoll, an All-MAAC second team selection, is averaging 12.9 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game and 2.2 blocks per game, all top ten in the conference.
Q30 Sports Dylan Fearon talked with Driscoll after Quinnipiac’s morning practice at Times Union Center. The Bobcats play Marist for the MAAC Championship at 4:30, live on ESPNU.
