Curious as to how and when the Video Music Awards will be happening this year? Well, look no further than below because we have all you need to know about the notorious award show!

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the talk of the award show happening was very up in the air until recently. Originally, the show was supposed to be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, however due to having to adhere to social distancing regulations the VMAs will now feature outdoor performances all around New York City. There will be limited or almost no audience allowed, but it will be filmed live. An MTV spokesperson recently made a statement as to why this decision was so important to them. In it they shared, “The 2020 VMAs will be held on Sunday, August 30th, and pay homage to the incredible resiliency of New York with several outdoor performances around the City with limited or no audience, adhering to all state and city guidelines. In close consultation with state and local health officials‎, it became clear at this time that outdoor performances with limited or no audience would be more feasible and safer than an indoor event. The VMAs will highlight the boroughs in an exciting show and return to Barclays Center in 2021. MTV will continue to work closely with the Department of Health, state and local officials, the medical community, and key stakeholders to ensure the safety of all involved.”

The host of the 2020 VMAs is none other than Keke Palmer. The announcement took place on Instagram earlier this month. The post featured Palmer on facetime with True Jackson (herself), the character she played on the Nickelodeon show True Jackson, VP

Some extremely exciting news that fans can look forward to are all the star studded performances that are set to occur. The performers thus far include The Weeknd, Miley Cyrus, Doja Cat, CNCO, DaBaby, BTS, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Maluma.

As for the awards, Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga both have nine nominations. Taylor Swift has been nominated for five awards and Dua Lipa is up for four.
