Former Quinnipiac lacrosse coach Tanya “TK” Kotowicz is suing the university for alleged sex discrimination.

The lawsuit claims Quinnipiac discriminated against Kotowicz by not providing her team adequate athletic trainer coverage and that she was fired in retaliation for her complaints on this issue, per the Greenwich Time. The suit was filed on Aug. 21 in Connecticut Superior Court in New Haven.

Kotowicz alleges that in the fall of 2023 Quinnipiac repeatedly did not provide athletic trainers to the women’s lacrosse team for a one-day tournament and practices, per the Quinnipiac Chronicle. She noted that the university provided trainers to the men’s lacrosse team in similar circumstances.

The suit seeks damages for lost wages, benefits and emotional distress. It also asks for “reinstatement or future economic damages” and punitive damages, per the QU Chronicle. 

Kotwicz was hired by QU in the fall of 2016 and terminated in Jan. 2024.

Quinnipiac also had a lawsuit filed against it by a former women’s volleyball coach, Robin Sparks and five players for violating Title IX in 2013, per an NBC CT article. Quinnipiac settled the lawsuit, which required it to keep its volleyball team and increase funding and resources for women’s sports teams.

When asked to comment publicly, Associate Vice President for Public Relations at Quinnipiac John Morgan stated, “The university does not comment on pending legal matters.”
