President Lahey gives Town of Hamden voluntary payment

President Lahey gives Town of Hamden voluntary payment

By Elijah Westbrook

On Thursday, Quinnipiac University announced that President John Lahey gave a voluntary payment of $1,231,934 to Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson.

According to the Quinnipiac website, the payment is for the 2014-2015 fiscal year which represents 40 percent of the state’s 2013 Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) and Pequot Fund allocation to the town of Hamden. The University decided to make this payment in addition to the $3 million Hamden receives from the PILOT and Pequot Funds.

Lahey says Quinnipiac University is proud to call Hamden home. “Providing this voluntary payment is an affirmation of the university’s ongoing support and appreciation of all that Hamden does for Quinnipiac,” Lahey says.

Quinnipiac says they will continue to pay property taxes on university-owned property.
