Since a reduction of COVID-19 protocols at Quinnipiac University, the Student Programming Board (SPB) has been operating in full swing to provide events to students.

Since the beginning of the semester, SPB has held events including trivia nights, live music, bingo and more. The new list of weekly activities comes after a difficult situation during the last school year, where dangers from the pandemic and increased restrictions from the school were more widespread.

“Last year was a big curveball for us,” Shannon Flaherty, president of SPB, said. “Just in terms of having to put in all of the COVID protocols, making sure people were wearing masks, and then eventually having to go fully virtual.”

With the loosening of pandemic restrictions during this semester, including removing the policy of wearing masks outside, there are now greater opportunities for the SPB to introduce events to students. Flaherty says that the SPB is ambitious in its efforts to provide students with bigger and more accessible events.

“You can expect all of our crazy, awesome events,” Flaherty said. “We’re bringing back our live concerts, we’re bringing back large scale events, we’re bringing back in-person bingo.”

Flaherty also said that food-based events, such as ‘Nug Night’ are returning after a pause from last year. She says that the food events are some of the most popular with the student body.

Despite their incoming plans, the SPB has already been providing a few events over the past few weeks. Students such as first-year Matt Infantino are already happy with what the organization has done so far.

“I went to one of the trivia nights and they’ve been a lot of fun,” Infantino said. “Very high energy and definitely a way to get people together.”

Sarah Hardiman, a first-year student, also enjoys the SPB events as ways to connect with other students.

“It’s been a great opportunity to meet new friends and get to know people,” Hardiman said. “I really like the paint nights, the food trucks are great. I love bingo too.”

Students can find a list of events that are run by the SPB on the DoYouQU website.
