The Corner Deli, a popular breakfast and lunch spot in Hamden, recently moved locations from the corner of Dixwell and Evergreen avenue to Whitney Avenue. The deli is now located right in between Quinnipiac’s Mount Carmel Campus and York Hill.

The deli moved locations because of an issue with the old lease.

“The lease was too high and there were many issues with the landlord,” said owner of Corner Deli Jaime (the owner did not disclose last name). “That is why we moved.”

Since the move, the deli has seen an increase in business as more students buying food.

“Business is still, well January is slow for us, but business is still doing good,” Jaime said.

Quinnipiac students are also happy about the location change.

“It is so much closer to us now,” said sophomore Joancy Espinal. “We don’t have to eat at the rat or go to Ray and Mike’s or Tonino’s. It is now not so far.”

Although, some students think competition may arise between Corner Deli and other food places on Whitney Avenue.

“I also think there might be some competition now with Corner Deli there especially between Ray and Mikes, Toninos and Falcon pizza” said junior Mike Forcino.

But Jaime is not concerned.

“I think everyone does things differently, so people who already come here know what they are looking for and the same thing with other locations,” Jaime said. “We don’t look at it as a competition, I think it is a market for everyone.”

Corner Deli now opens at 8 a.m. for breakfast and closes at 7 p.m. during the week.
