The Student Government Association held special elections for three open senator positions on Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The open positions were senior senator, health, wellness and accessibility senator and commuter senator.

After the elections, two out of three candidates were chosen. Abdullah Farid was elected senior senator and Thea Kageleiry was elected health, wellness and accessibility senator.

One of Farid’s goals as the senior senator is to help students feel safe within their religious beliefs.

“Obviously spread religious awareness to campus for undergraduate students who find that difficult on campus,” Farid said.

Kageleiry hopes to accommodate students on campus with the construction occurring on the south quad.

“I was thinking of just due to the construction that’s happening and like detouring on the way to CAS (College of Arts And Sciences),” Kageleiry said. “That’s probably causing some interference with everyone, probably especially people that might have trouble getting around if they’re in a wheelchair, crutches or something like that. So hopefully…if there’s any issues…fixing those.”

Since two of the three candidates were elected, the Commuter Senator position remains open. For students interested in applying, they can contact SGA President Owenea Roberts, [email protected]
