Quinnipiac University’s Department of Athletics announced women’s lacrosse head coach Danie Caro will not return to Hamden for the 2015-2016 season Friday morning.

Caro was the helm for 10 years, posting an 81-81 record, including five Northeast Conference regular season championships. In 2011, Caro led the Bobcats to an NEC Tournament championship and a NCAA Tournament berth.

The transition from the NEC to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference was anything but smooth. In its inaugural year in the MAAC, Quinnipiac went 2-13, including a 2-6 conference record, losing its last four contests to end the season.  In the 2014-2015 season, Quinnipiac posted a 2-14 record, going just 1-7 in MAAC play.

The Bobcats are just 2-12 at home in the last two seasons under Caro, while they haven’t finished above .500 since the 2010-2011 championship season. Caro’s record in the last four years is a pedestrian 19-44.

This is the first major news in Quinnipiac athletics since the university hired Greg Amodio to replace Jack McDonald as Director of Athletics. His first day was on July 20th.

“I would like to thank Danie Caro for all that she has done for Quinnipiac women’s lacrosse over the last 10 years,” Amodio said in a statement. “She has recruited and mentored students-athletes whose contributions in the classroom and the community have been just as important as their accomplishments on the field. Danie’s leadership has built a strong foundation for the program’s future growth. We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.”

Brittany Hauser, the program’s top assistant coach for the past five seasons, will serve as the interim head coach until the athletic department finds a permanent replacement for Caro. Hauser graduated from Quinnipiac in 2010 and was an All-NEC selection three years in a row.
