The ECAC Hockey tournament is over.

Due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, the ECAC Hockey tournament will not continue, as first reported by John Buccigross.

Less than a day after Harvard and Yale pulled out of the tournament, officials decided to pull the plug on it altogether. This comes shortly after the Ivy League announced the cancellation of all spring sports for all of their schools.

Following Yale’s withdrawal, Quinnipiac’s opening ECAC playoff series was rescheduled to host Princeton this weekend, with only essential team personnel and immediate family members allowed to attend. Before the tournament was canceled, it was reported this morning that RPI – one of the non-Ivy League schools that was still in the tournament – was set to follow suit and withdraw as well.

College hockey is not alone in the NCAA’s effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19: all five power conferences in college basketball announced the immediate cancellation of their conference tournaments, and the NCAA tournament is slated to take place with no fans in attendance.

More updates to come.
