VIDEO STORY

Facing elimination on Saturday night, the Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey team took it’s home ice against the Brown Bears in game two of the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals. Alex Whelan scored two goals in the first period to give the Bobcats a lead they would hold after 40 minutes.

Then the 3rd period began.

Brown’s captains Max Gottlieb and Tommy Marchin each scored once in the first two minutes of the period to tie the game at 2-2.

Then with just under nine minutes left in regulation, Brent Beaudoin gave the Bears their first lead of the game, just one night after he scored the tying goal with 21 seconds left in regulation.

Marchin added a key insurance goal two minutes later and despite Craig Martin cutting the deficit to just one, Brown held on to win 4-3.

After getting swept, Quinnipiac has now lost it’s first home playoff series since the People’s United Center opened in 2007. The Bobcats will also not be moving on to Lake Placid for the second season in a row.

The Bobcats will await their seeding for the NCAA tournament. The NCAA selection show is March 24.
