No. 9 Quinnipiac takes down AIC in home opener

A matchup between two teams who made the NCAA Tournament last year ended in a 3-2 victory for the Quinnipiac men’s hockey team over American International College.

Special teams led the way for the Bobcats, who finished in the top 5 in the nation last year in power play and penalty kill percentages. They are off to a strong start this year in that aspect of play.

Ethan Leyh scored his first collegiate goal on the power play in the first period to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Quinnipiac’s second power play goal came through Peter DiLiberatore on a one-timer from the point in the second period. Captain Nick Jermain rounded out the scoring with a goal with 18 seconds left in the first period.

Keith Petruzzelli made 25 saves in net to record the win.
