Power Rankings: ECAC women’s ice hockey

Power Rankings: ECAC womens ice hockey

Matt

Quinnipiac Bobcats (20-1-4, 10-1-3 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/15 vs. Robert Morris W 3-2, 1/16 vs. Robert Morris W 2-0, 1/20 vs. Boston University W 6-1

With a 6-1 win over the Terriers, the Bobcats proved lethal on offense as they scored six goals. T.T. Cianfarano continues to show everyone that she is the best player in the ECAC as she tallied three points against Boston University.

Next three: 1/29 at Harvard,1/30 at Dartmouth, 2/5 at Cornell

Andrew

2. Quinnipiac Bobcats (20-1-4, 10-1-3 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/15 vs. Robert Morris W 3-2, 1/16 vs. Robert Morris W 2-0, 1/20 vs. Boston University W 6-1

Another solid week for the Bobcats, with a dominating 6-1 win. How far can Cassandra Turner’s team go? The answer lies in the play of Cianfarano and goaltender Sydney Rossman.

Next three: 1/29 at Harvard,1/30 at Dartmouth, 2/5 at Cornell

Andrew

2. Princeton Tigers (16-4-1, 9-4-1 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/8 at Union W 5-0, 1/9 at Rensselaer W 3-2, 1/25 at UConn W 4-0

This vacation of a weekend off could be good or bad for the Tigers, as momentum from their last few months may be fading. If they can stay in control of their games, as they have in recent weeks, watch out.

Next three: 1/29 at Dartmouth, 1/30 at Harvard, 2/5 at Colgate

Matt

2. Princeton Tigers (16-4-1, 9-4-1 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/8 at Union W 5-0, 1/9 at Rensselaer W 3-2, 1/25 at UConn W 4-0

With another week off, the Tigers remain at the two spot, but keep a close watch as Clarkson or St. Lawrence could make a case for second place in my rankings.

Next three: 1/29 at Dartmouth, 1/30 at Harvard, 2/5 at Colgate

Matt

3. St. Lawrence Saints (8-11-4, 6-5-2 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/15 vs. Union W 2-0, 1/16 at Union W 3-0, 1/22 at Brown W 6-2

After putting up 5 goals against Cornell, the Saints have taken over the 3 spot as their offense was alive and well against the Big Red.

Next three: 1/26 at Yale, 1/29 vs. Colgate, 1/30 vs. Cornell

Andrew

3. Clarkson Golden Knights (20-3-3, 8-3-3 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 vs. Harvard W 5-2, 1/22 at Cornell T 2-2, 1/23 at Colgate W 3-2

Big, big win against Colgate. This team is still one of the best nationally, and they proved it in that closely contested game.

Next three: 1/28 at St. Lawrence, 1/30 vs. St. Lawrence, 2/5 Rensselaer

Andrew

4. Colgate Raiders (14-5-7, 6-3-5 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 vs. Yale W 4-3, 1/22 vs. St. Lawrence T 1-1, 1/23 vs. Clarkson L 3-2

Despite the loss to Clarkson, this team has been solid in 2016. Dark horse in the ECAC tournament? Possibly.

Next three: 1/29 at Rensselaer, 1/30 at Union, 2/5 vs. Princeton

Matt

4. Clarkson Golden Knights (20-3-3, 8-3-3 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 vs. Harvard W 5-2, 1/22 at Cornell T 2-2, 1/23 at Colgate W 3-2

Although Clarkson went 1-0-1 this week when they should’ve won both games, they have an offense that comes alive when it needs to.

Next three: 1/28 at St. Lawrence, 1/30 vs. St. Lawrence, 2/5 vs. Rensselaer

Matt

5. Colgate Raiders (14-5-7, 6-3-5 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 vs. Yale W 4-3, 1/22 vs. St. Lawrence T 1-1, 1/23 vs. Clarkson L 3-2

Clarkson and St. Lawrence were two big games for the Raiders and they showed up big time. Great tie against St. Lawrence and a tough, tough loss against Clarkson. Nonetheless a great week for the Raiders as they have a much easier week ahead of them.

Next three: 1/29 at Rensselaer, 1/30 at Union, 2/5 vs. Princeton

Andrew

5. St. Lawrence Saints (8-11-4, 6-5-2 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/15 vs. Union W 2-0, 1/16 at Union W 3-0, 1/22 at Brown W 6-2

A dominant win against Cornell can’t push away the tie to Colgate. St. Lawrence remains fifth until they can prove they can put away teams above them.

Next three: 1/28 vs. Clarkson, 1/30 at Clarkson, 2/5 vs. Union

Andrew

6. Harvard Crimson (11-7-1, 8-5-1 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 at Clarkson L 5-2, 1/19 vs. Boston College L 2-0, 1/23 vs. Dartmouth W 2-0

Emerance Maschmeyer with a solid 36-save effort in a 2-0 loss to top-ranked Boston College, followed up by a shutout in a 2-0 win over Dartmouth. No matter where the Crimson offense decides to be, Maschmeyer always shows up.

Next three: 1/29 vs. Quinnipiac, 1/30 vs. Princeton, 2/2 vs. Boston College

Matt

6. Harvard Crimson (11-7-1, 8-5-1 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 at Clarkson L 5-2, 1/19 vs. Boston College L 2-0, 1/23 vs. Dartmouth W 2-0

I guess Harvard just found itself in the middle of the pack due to their mediocre play. The Crimson’s offense isn’t what it was in the beginning of the season.

Next three: 1/29 vs. Quinnipiac, 1/30 vs. Princeton, 2/2 vs. Boston College

Matt

7) Cornell Big Red (8-9-4, 4-6-4 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 vs. Brown T 2-2, 1/22 vs. Clarkson T 2-2, 1/23 vs. St. Lawrence L 5-1

One of the most inconsistent teams in the ECAC. One game the Big Red play their hearts out against Clarkson and skate to a tie and then the next they get blown out by a team that has shown similar strengths and weaknesses as Clarkson.

Next three: 1/29 at Union, 1/30 at Rensselaer, 2/5 vs. Quinnipiac

Andrew

7. Cornell Big Red (8-9-4, 4-6-4 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 vs. Brown T 2-2, 1/22 vs. Clarkson T 2-2, 1/23 vs. St. Lawrence L 5-1

I can never tell which Cornell team is going to show up to a game. One day, it’s the team capable of tying Clarkson. The other, a team blown out by St. Lawrence. If they aren’t careful, they could be the first team to fall to Union this Friday.

Next three: 1/29 at Union, 1/30 at Rensselaer, 2/5 vs. Quinnipiac

Andrew

8. Dartmouth Big Green (4-13-3, 4-7-3 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/15 at Clarkson L 1-0, 1/16 at St. Lawrence T 2-2, 1/23 at Harvard L 2-0

A close loss to Harvard means the Big Green stay near the middle of the pack.

Next three: 1/29 vs. Princeton, 1/30 vs. Quinnipiac, 2/5 vs. Yale

Matt

8. RPI Engineers (8-12-4, 6-6-2 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 at Union W 3-0, 1/22 at Brown W 6-2, 1/29 at Yale L 2-1

Although the Engineers scored 6 goals in a blowout against Brown, their offense has only come when they have played weak teams. The loss to Yale can’t be a good feeling for a team looking for answers.

Next three: 1/29 vs. Colgate, 1/30 vs. Cornell, 2/5 at Clarkson

Matt

9. Dartmouth Big Green (4-13-3, 4-7-3 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/15 at Clarkson L 1-0, 1/16 at St. Lawrence T 2-2, 1/23 at Harvard L 2-0

After getting shutout against Harvard, the Big Green don’t seem to be skating with a purpose as the season heads into the final stretch.

Next: 1/29 vs. Princeton, 1/30 vs. Quinnipiac, 2/5 vs. Yale

Andrew

9. RPI Engineers (8-12-4, 6-6-2 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 at Union W 3-0, 1/22 at Brown W 6-2, 1/29 at Yale L 2-1

Wow, 6 goals in a game? A tall task before for this team, although it was against lowly Brown. Small wins, small mental victories.

Next three: 1/29 vs. Colgate, 1/30 vs. Cornell, 2/5 at Clarkson

Andrew

10. Yale Bulldogs (7-13-1, 6-7-1 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 at Colgate L 4-3, 1/22 vs. Union W 2-1, 1/26 vs. Rensselaer W 2-1

If it wasn’t for the poor play of the teams below them, Yale would be much lower. The win over RPI certainly can boost morale, but how far can they take this momentum?

Next three: 1/29 vs. Brown, 1/30 at Brown, 2/5 at Dartmouth

Matt

10. Yale Bulldogs (7-13-1, 6-7-1 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 at Colgate L 4-3, 1/22 vs. Union W 2-1, 1/26 vs. Rensselaer W 2-1

Once again the Bulldogs find themselves in my 10-spot again due to the fact that they really don’t have anything going for them, except for the fact that both teams below them are worse.

Next three: 1/29 vs. Brown, 1/30 at Brown, 2/5 at Dartmouth

Matt

11. Brown Bears (3-16-2, 1-11-2 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/19 at Merrimack L 4-1, 1/22 vs. Rensselaer L 6-2, 1/23 vs. Union T 2-2

After getting blown out by RPI I was tempted to put the Bears in my last spot, but Union wins that battle as they are still winless.

Next three: 1/29 at Yale, 1/30 vs. Yale, 2/5 at Harvard

Andrew

11. Brown Bears (3-16-2, 1-11-2 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/19 at Merrimack L 4-1, 1/22 vs. Rensselaer L 6-2, 1/23 vs. Union T 2-2

Some day, Brown will get a victory that isn’t against one of the few teams worse than the Bears.

Next three: 1/29 at Yale, 1/30 vs. Yale, 2/5 at Harvard

Andrew

12. Union Dutchwomen (0-20-6, 0-11-3 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 vs. Rensselaer L 3-0, 1/22 at Yale L 2-1, 1/23 at Brown T 2-2

If they show up in Friday, I think there is an upset brewing in Schenectady. If only their team was as great as the name of the town they reside in.

Next three: 1/29 vs. Cornell, 1/30 at Colgate, 2/5 at St. Lawrence

Matt

12. Union Dutchwomen (0-20-6, 0-11-3 ECAC)

Previous three: 1/16 vs. Rensselaer L 3-0, 1/22 at Yale L 2-1, 1/23 at Brown T 2-2

Almost came out with a win against Brown, but we all know how that went. Maybe a new draft class will help. The Dutchwomen look dead on the ice.

Next three: 1/29 vs. Cornell, 1/30 at Colgate, 2/5 at St. Lawrence
