Quinnipiac University has set the opening of its new bookstore for January, and the space vacated by the former bookstore will be used for a new type of dining space for students.
After the construction of the new Quinnipiac South Quad and the new school of business that came with it, the former school of business office building, located between the DOME and North Not on the Mount Carmel campus, is now being repurposed as Quinnipiac’s new bookstore.
This new bookstore will have the usual clothes and other merchandise found in Quinnipiac’s current bookstore on its first level. The floor below it will have school supplies, similar to the former bookstore’s upper floor, according to Sal Filardi, vice president for facilities and capital planning at Quinnipiac.
The space left by the former bookstore is set for use by Chartwells, which oversees Quinnipiac’s dining.
Named the “all-you-care-to-eat” section, it will be a buffet-style dining space where students will swipe their QCard to get in, according to Filardi.
This will be similar to a traditional “meal swipe,” but right now it is unclear how students’ meal plans will change and when this new dining space will be ready for students.
Once the former bookstore is completely relocated, construction will begin on this dining space.
This comes as part of Quinnipiac’s “2020 master plan,” which also involves the finished construction of the South Quad and the demolition of Buckman Theatre.
